HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

 

Seeking experienced Log Shovel Operator in the Olympia area.

WORK AREA: Olympia, Washington

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Load and off load logs to/from trailers.
  • Retrieve bundled logs from the water.
  • Rearrange log bundles as necessary.
  • Roll logs onto scales to be measured as necessary.
  • Band trucks as necessary by pulling banding out of dispenser and tossing over load of logs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have experience in loading log trucks and log bunks to weight/height.
  • Willing to learn other areas of operation such as Log Stacker, Boom Boat, and Banding operation.
  • Ability to operate a crimping gun.
  • Light mechanical work a plus.
  • Sitting, standing, pushing/pulling/lifting, climbing stairs, reaching above shoulder, repetitive feet and hand motions.

LICENSED ENGINEER

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Engineer is directly responsible to the vessel Master for proper operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment on the vessel and its tow.

The primary responsibility of the Engineer is to safely operate and efficiently maintain the vessel machinery.  The Engineer is accountable for all engine room tools and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Operational Responsibilities:

  • The person in charge (PIC) will oversee the transfer of necessary fuel, water, and lube oil to the vessel. Any fuel transfer, oil transfer or bilge water transfer must be in accordance with oil transfer procedures.
  • Routinely order machinery parts and engine room supplies on a timely basis.

 

Equipment Responsibilities:

  • Repair all machinery and equipment on board the vessel within their capacity.

 

Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Complete the daily engine log each day.
  • Maintain the oil record book on vessels where required.
  • Complete the Monthly Machinery Operating Report
  • Complete a refrigeration temperature log for each barge that has aboard any running refrigeration units if the vessel is not carrying a refrigerator technician aboard.
  • Complete and forward to the office work orders for all work, which is beyond the capability of the engineer.

 

Safety Responsibilities:

 

The Engineer must perform the following firefighting duties:

  • Have knowledge of the maintenance, operation and discharging procedures for all onboard fire extinguishers.
  • Ensure that all fire systems and extinguishers are properly charged and tagged.
  • Have knowledge of the maintenance and operation of other firefighting equipment available to or on board the vessel.
  • Ensure the proper operation of fire hoses and nozzles.
  • Report to the Master any malfunction of the firefighting equipment beyond the repair capabilities of vessel personnel.
  • Train crewmembers in the operation of all firefighting equipment aboard the vessel.
  • Assist the Master in the preparation of emergency procedures relating to fires on board the tow or vessel.
  • Assist the Master in conducting fire emergency procedures and fire drills.
  • Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the Master and making “on-the-spot” corrections when capable.
  • Ensure that the fire pump is always ready for emergency procedures and fire drills

 

Other Responsibilities, not limited to the following:

  • When taking on fuel, follow all USCG regulations and requirements. If spillage occurs on the deck, clean it up immediately.
  • If the Engineer must leave the pumping station when transferring fuel, transfer operations must be shut down.
  • Keep decks free of oil and fuel.
  • Pick up and secure pumps, hoses, fire extinguishers, etc., when no longer needed.
  • Keep engine room neat and clean.
  • Maintain an onboard Engine Room supply and spare parts invent updating and replacing supplies, which are used from inventory.,
  • Maintain emergency fuel shutoff valves, engine room ventilation covers and hatches.
  • Ensure that piping, pumps and start boxes are properly labeled and color coded.
  • Complete and turn in the Monthly Engine Room Inspection.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • MMC DDE 4,000.
  • Medical Certificate STCW and National.
  • STCW endorsement on MMC.
  • First Aid/CPR training certificate.
  • HAZWOPER training within 90 days of hire.
  • State Driver’s License.
  • US Passport.
  • Two (2) years work experience on marine diesels.
  • Permanent residence in Washington or Oregon is preferred.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to comprehend, respond and carry out specific orders from the Captain or immediate supervisor.
  • Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.

Master/Mate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master/Mate 500 GRT Near Coastal/Oceans
  • Master/Mate of Towing Vessels Near Coastal/Oceans
  • STCW with security endorsement
  • GMDSS, ECDIS, RADAR, TWIC, Passport
